A sunny Glenbane was the venue for a thrilling U-12 League encounter where the clash of the crosses saw Rearcross just about shade it on a narrow 2-1 score line over Holycross 'A'. A lively opening to the game saw the home side come close with a good effort from Ben Hennessy which flew over and then a Rearcross counter attack saw Cillian Kennedy shoot wide of the mark. The Rea boys took the lead on the sixteen minute mark when Cillian Kennedy's corner kick broke to Patrick Dawson who prodded his seventh of the season to the corner of the net. Holycross came back at the visitors as Cathal Kennedy reacted a make a fine save at the near post. Stephen Rochford was next up with a good effort which wasn't far away. The visiting shot stopper was in the action again just before half time with a good save from a long range effort. Holycross piled on the pressure in the second half and came close with a low drive but Cathal Kennedy reflexed to save with his boot. Rearcross doubled their advantage with eight minutes remaining after Stephen Rochford broke on the right before unleashing a low rasping effort to the back of the net. However a gallant Glenbane outfit came storming back and came close when a Sam Quinlan free kick from the by line clipped the top of the cross bar. A hectic finish ensued after a good move down the right culminated with a Gary Dwan lay off to Joe Caesar who rammed to the corner of the net. Goalmouth action at both sides failed to produce another goal with the hosts unlucky not to scramble the ball between the posts in the dying moments. Rearcross were fortunate to hold on for a hard earned win in the end with Sean Malone turning in a sterling performance in a central defensive role throughout while Paul Nolan was dominant in midfield, all in all a great display.
